In theory, yes, evolution should have stepped in...but the counter argument is behaviour over attraction. Until incredibly recently, homosexuals have been expected to have heterosexual relationships and procreate both due to social acceptance and survival. The 'job' is getting done, so evolutionary change isn't urgent.

That does invite interesting debate over the future of homosexuals though as increased acceptance will lead to homosexuals not having heterosexual intercourse, which will generate evolutionary urgency and homosexuality theoretically should die out as natural selection kicks in.

However, the curveball on that is scientific advancement. Homosexuals can and will procreate, just not through intercourse. So, again, human behaviour over attraction could cheat evolution in that respect. The 'job' will still be getting done.

Then there's the argument of equilibrium, that gay people balance things out and are effectively population control and serve a purpose beyond being a statistical mutation. There's been some interesting studies where homosexual animals become carers for young in the social group, so homosexuality becomes an advantage to the survival of other offspring because they don't have young of their own to care for or share food with.

I think it makes a lot of sense. Gay men and straight women (and vice versa) are both attracted to the same sex, so logically would develop in some sort of similar fashion thanks to shared attraction. Perhaps it explains why gay men often adopt "feminine" traits and lesbian women often adopt "masculine" traits? They are hard wired to attract a certain gendered mate, so exhibit behaviour that said gender would be attracted to?

Not just talking extremes like femme queens and butch ****s. For example, gay men are often more sensitive/caring/nurturing than straight men, which could be intended to display their suitability for "mothering" to potential (male) mates. Whilst lesbian women often appear to be more stronger/dominant/protective than straight women, which could be intended to display their suitability for "fathering" to potential (female) mates.

The term straight-acting is so freaking stupid tbh. How does a straight person act? There are feminine and metrosexual straight men.. Also, there would obviously be exceptions to the rule, but I would like to see how the statistics of gays who Identified as feminine today would compare to the amount of gays who identified in time period with a culture that did shun & reject homosexuality and femininity in males. Internalized homophobia and femophobia exist very widely in the LGBT community.
