I'm glad that they're at least expanding their storage possibilities, but I hope that they lower the prices with the iPad 5 release by cutting out the 16GB model altogether. $799 might sound like a lot, but getting 8x the storage for $300 more isn't that bad of a deal. Obviously it doesn't cost Apple nearly that much to put the storage in there but that's Apple tax for ya... I question who actually needs 128GB on a tablet though...

But when you're paying $799 for a tablet, you might as well spend $200 more for a new MacBook Air (or $50 more for a refurb). The funny thing is though, this is still $100 cheaper than the Microsoft Surface Pro

Doind the most this costs way too much I still have my 4th generation iPod touch 32GB and its almost filled I can settle for a 64GB but with all the music I listen to I might need more GBs (but not 128 )

From what I've gathered... One of those Macbooks gotta go. And it's looking like they're gonna hybrid the Air & the Pro and just have a MacBook again.

They're pushing the tablet more than the desktop at this point.

Say what you like but the iPad is changing the game. People are quick to say it can't replace a computer but real life people are doing just that. People are finding new ways to get things done and once more realize just that most people will be living with a desktop.

These are marketed towards people like photographers, doctors and producers and others who work in fields where project sizes can range at a gig or more per file.

$799 will get you an extremely powerful notebook with 750GB-1TB hard drive.

I mean it's pretty on the outside but to pay a premium on an old duplicate os from 7 years ago.. Your better off with an ancient artifact laptop for such "pro-grade" use. But hey it has an apple on the back and you'll look high class.

Comparing tablets to notebooks is never fair. People pay $500 for an iPad or $400 for a Nexus 10, but you can get a laptop with a 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM, a quad core processor, and a decent integrated graphics card for the same price. It's clear that people don't have an issue with the cost of an iPad, and like someone else said, the 128GB version will likely be bought mostly by companies using them for work. I can't see that anyone else would have a library big enough to fill it unless they had a lot of movies.

why would that get rid of the pro... the pro is the macbook their is no just macbook.

Some of the people they're targeting (enterprise and artists) don't want Airs or computers. They want tablets to carry around instead. That's basically Microsoft's approach too. And yes, the Surface Pro is more expensive with only 83GB free storage.

I bought a 64 GB iPad with 3G a few months ago and I paid $800. I mainly store movies and TV shows on it though.
