Music News: Ultra Records joining Sony Music

A really big deal, as it means Sony and Ultra will be able to provide Clear Channel with a lot of content to fill the schedules of the new upcoming radio stations. They're a good fit.

It looked like Ultra was going to merge into Cash Money Records and completely re-establish the label from urban to mainstream/EDM, however the deal with Sony was clearly better.

Sony and Ultra's first signing is Daft Punk, who will release their new album through Columbia Records in May.

I love music industry news! We need a new sub forum or thread AT LEAST!!!

And interesting about these new radio stations... any more info about that anyone??? And about Ultra. They already have a good network/infrastructure. They have already independently carried songs to the top ten. I am pretty wary of major labels now..... So I guess if that is the Ultra Records founder's vision, then I hope it goes well. I just hope if it does not he gets all the rights to Ultra back.

Ultra is an obvious pick to gather content from the new radio stations. Many of their acts produce very pop-accessible music while still keeping it real.

I hope that in a not-so-distant future a partnership with major labels is not needed in order to get your music on the mainstream waves. But, who knows? Maybe another big one is striking hands with Spinnin' Records as we speak.

I agree 100% and I love you for saying this, we should be best friends.

Also half of me is over excited about this and is ready to declare Sony/Ultra the best record label now and the other half of me is scared that Sony is going to ruin EDM music and culture forever.
