Thought only teens and tweens are sexting on their mobile phones? You're wrong.
According to a Jan. 22 report by dating site BeNaughty.com, grandparents are in for some kinky text messages too. The site analyzed nearly 1,800 members and found that 31 percent of people over 50 years old admitted to sexting.
Approaching your silver years doesn't necessarily mean an end to bedroom gymnastics, although the physical flare will be considerably reduced due to arthritis and hip problems. According to the site, "grannies and grandads are using their mobile phones to send each other raunchy pictures."
"Sexting has become increasingly acceptable and is no longer considered a dirty word," Benaughty.com's Sean Wood told Yahoo! News. "What's most interesting is that it's popular among all ages and genders, whether you're 18, or over 50."
SaferSex4Seniors.org even has a YouTube commercial that advocates safe sex for older citizens. The catchy ad features a pretty catchy dance tune.
The site targeted for senior citizens describes itself as "an independent collective of professional sexuality educators, researchers, authors, trainers, counselors, and therapists". According to the site, STDs among senior citizens have risen 71 percent in Florida alone.
Last year's survey of nearly 3,000 Americans by Lookout Mobile Security suggested the same thing - that a growing number of older people are sexting.
These days, senior citizens aren't only shopping for Depends at grocery stores. Heck, they might be getting more action than tweens. The next time you hear a grandparent humming an old Elvis tune, you may have your answer as to why.
I'm calling BS. I bet that the "BeNaughty" website conducted the survey on its own members, which would cause such a high number. I doubt that 31% of grandparents are sexting. Most of them can't even type properly.
