Let's not forget that while Abrams is the director, he is not the writer.
Star Trek, the 2009 release, stayed true to the original vision. Yes, it was more modern and sleek, but duh it's the 21rst century, not the 1960's.
That's why I don't get why people bitch about Episodes 1, 2, and 3. There were "plotholes" (even though it's a fictional sci-fi movie), mediocre acting and corny dialogue from the beginning. For some reason Lucas and Hayden Christensen took a lot of undeserved flack from fans that are mad for what reason exactly? Not sure, but even though the first two of the prequels aren't the best, I can tolerate them and I enjoy Revenge of the Sith a lot.
Abrams and the writers for Star Trek did an excellent job and I have faith he will do well with this project as well. If people really hate the newer Star Wars movies then keep freaking watching the old ones and shut the hell up.
