He's right. It's well-known that most iTunes buyers are females. Look it up on Google.
And most Spotify users are male. Look at Slide 23 of this presentation:

That's why people like Kendrick Lamar, A$AP Rocky, Kanye West, Mumford & Sons, Imagine Dragons, etc. do better on streaming, whilst people like Kelly Clarkson, Katy Perry and Pink do much better on downloads.
