She was lucky.

Britney came out first and set the tone for the teen pop explosion(along with N'sync and BB)..

She danced and had catchy music..but the school girl outfit in BOMT was ICONIC. She said it was her idea and it worked. It took her over the edge without being ****ty. She had it.

Christina is more talented than Britney and was Britney's biggest competition. She had the voice, but didn't have Britney's bubbly personality. What I like about Christina is that she wanted to shed her "pop" image and go for something completely different with "Stripped"..Britney played up to it, but she knew she couldn't hold on to it forever.

I prefer Xtina over Britney, but Britney is the bigger star and always has been.

She's very talented.

Britney had better songs. Also the iconic BOMT video, her charisma and her dance moves.

There are too many things to count why Britney is more successful so I will switch it a little bit...
Britney has one limitation for which she overcompensates in various other ways.

The other girls had a handful of limitations and didn't really overcompensate (particularly in the beginning of their careers, if it all).
Therefore, she's the valedictorian of the pop world.

Just like Beyonce is the valedictorian of the urban female world when comparing her to Alicia (more successful albums artists), Ciara, Ashanti, Rihanna (although Rihanna just surpassed her worldwide), keyshia cole, Tamar Braxton, Keri Hilson...who averages out better...Beyonce.

Better PR team, stronger label support, she came out first and a lot of people like average things.
