Citing some facts is hardly "discrediting" something
Taylor is one of my fave and i'm glad for her but at the same time i think it's unfair for some legends who acccomplished things like this in a WAY harder way. The digital era REALLY changed the way records sell and chart and i think Billboard and others official charts should take that into consideration.
I mean Madonna is still the best selling female artist of all time but i won't be surprised if her total sales will be surpassed one day thanks to digital sales (mostly singles). Same for others legends who will also be outsell (if it's not the case already for some). And you know people will use that to prove how "superior" the new artist is
We'll see what happen next but people really need to take into consideration the before-and-after digital era.
