All you need is a case. I had one of those faux-carbon fiber covers for my old 3GS and within a couple weeks of that case breaking, I dropped my phone on the sidewalk and the screen cracked. Luckily that was right around my two-year mark with the phone and the 4S was just about to come out. Now I just have a flimsy rubber cover on my 4S; I've had it since October 2011 and I drop it fairly often and the screen is perfect.
I'm probably sticking with Apple because of how integrated it is with iTunes and how much I use the iPod function, which Android can't really touch. If I ever switched to Spotify I'd consider a Samsung, but for now the iPhone keeps me perfectly satisfied. At the end of the day there really isn't much of a difference in performance or feature set between the 5 and the S3. Most of that spec list in Samsung's S3 vs. i5 ad is full of fluffy software functions that people don't even use.
