So since October 22nd my favourite sacRED song has been The Lucky One. While most people thought that it was about Taylor's role models, I always thought that it was about Tayor herself.
I have been bullied all my life. The constant abuse, lack of friends and other things that I won't mention here made me bury my personality deeper and deeper.And I actually created a new one. One that was kind of cool, could fit in, didn't give a **** about anything. And it was cool, but also it didn't make me feel anything. No pain, no love, no fear. Just no emotion at all. And still everyone else thought that I was the perfect kid. They told me I had great grades,no problems, a bright future. But I would've traded all that for someone to trust in.
Since I first heard TLO I immediately related to the song, because the things Taylor sings about in this song are the same I felt when I was dealing with all that.

Ok so here it goes.
"New to town with a made up name, in the Angel city searching fortune and fame"
This line refers to how quickly she appeared in the music world and how ambitious she was. But the part where she says "made up name" doesn't actually refer to a real made up name, but rather how she slowly had to change herself to fit in the industry.


"And the camera flashes, makes it looks like a dream".
Hey, why not change myself, I'm getting the attention, I'm getting the $, the awards, the recognition. Sacrificing something won't affect me at all

"you had it figured out since you were in school
everybody loves pretty, everybody loves cool
so overnight, you look like a 60s queen"

When she was young, she was bullied constantly, had few friends. But now she's on top of the world. Isn't that what everyone wants? But she knows her old self was bullied, was teased. Will people like her if she's her true self, or will they make fun of her just like they used to do at school?

and your lover in the foyer doesn't even know you"
Everything seems perfect, she's got the money and the fame, what else does she need? Oh right, love. That thing the old Taylor dreamt about constantly. But she doesn't have time for love. Any guy who doesn't bring in the money isn't worth her time. Maybe someone convinced her about that. Either way, she's forced into fake relationships that make her suffer while she supresses her old self again more and more. But does she care about it when all she sees is luxury? I don't think so

"and your secrets end up splashed on the news front page"
No need to explain this one.

"and they tell you that you're lucky but you're so confused
cause you don't feel pretty, you just feel used
and all the young things line up to take your place"
But slowly she starts to realize what she's letting go. She's letting go her reputation, her dignity and her love just for the money. And the fact that she's not doing it willingly, but because someone advises her to is more disturbing. Because she knows that when she turns useless to them they'll drop her and forget her name. She's just another thing in the industry. And as any thing she's disposable

"it was a few years later i showed up here
and they still tell the legend of how you disappeared
how you took the money and your dignity and got the hell out"
Now this was the line that bothered me. Is she really talking about material things here or is she talking about something else?Maybe she's talking about her old self, who completly dissapeared, and is supressed somewhere, but at least she's safe. She was unaffected by all the humilliating, the pressure, the media. Taylor had to create another personality to protect her original one. And in the process she became a joke. Maybe the legend is about how beautiful and talented she was before her fall.

"chose the rose garden over madison square
and it took some time, but i understand it now...
cause now my name is up in lights
but i think you got it right"
Now is she talking about a real rose garden, or is it a metaphor for a peaceful, quiet place? The place where her core personality fled to.Maybe she's angry at her for leaving her alone, for leaving her as an empty shell who can only do what people expect her to do. But she understands it. Because she knows the pain is unbearable.
Now she's more famous than ever, she's got more money than ever, but she lost the only true thing she had left: her true self

It's interesting to note that Taylor also tells her other personality that she's the lucky one in the first and second chorus because she has the money and the fame. But in the final chorus she tells her original personality that she's lucky, maybe because she doesn't have to go through all that.
Maybe they're both lucky, but they're also unhappy

TLO will lead us into LP5 with music she wants. And her personal life is very much out of the public eye, no more lovers in the foyer not knowing her. Any publicity she does will be music related.

I m REALLy afraid that Taylor will follow Jim Morisson or Amy Whinehouse (if you knw wht I mean) she s constantly under pressure and bashed and acclaimed and critized, she should always be perfect, even her own base (including me) gives her pressures, it s just humanly impossible to please everybody, poor Taylor, I wonder how this will end up ?!

Well i believe that the fact that she wrote The Lucky One means that the song, the.description, narrative all comes from her own point of view. So I believe that that was Taylor's view on fame and everything at the back of her mind.

I havent posted in here for ages but ive been lurking like crazy. i hope this media scrunity would stop. The paps and the fake relationships must never ever come back.
