Celeb News: US critics DRAG BTW Ball

Lady Gaga had an ambitious game plan.
"I will be everything you love tonight," she promised to the capacity crowd on Thursday at HP Pavilion in San Jose. "And I will also be everything you hate."
That's a lot of ground to cover, even for Gaga. Yet, she seemed determined to blanket it all, through the dizzying array of wild props and bizarre theatrics found on her current Born This Way Ball Tour. She gave the fans too much -- and then she gave them some more.
The result was a convoluted, disjointed exercise in excess that was far less enjoyable than Gaga's previous road show, the Monster Ball Tour. What a major disappointment.
Just when it appears that Lady Gaga has surpassed her competitors in controversy -- Madonna, Britney Spears, etc. -- she takes a major step backward with a tour that delivers much flash and little else. I love a good pop spectacle, which was exactly what fans got with the Monster Ball Tour, but this current production is so over-the-top that it completely buries the music.
Even the 13,000-or-so fans, who were ecstatic at the start of the show, seemed to tire of the onslaught on the senses as the night progressed. The level of enthusiasm definitely seemed to peak early in the concert. One problem was that the show was too long -- nearly 2 ½ hours.
One wishes, however, that she'd use it more for singing and less for talking — especially about herself. I can't think of any other performers who chat as much about themselves onstage. Indeed, if I was to summarize and paraphrase everything Gaga said to the crowd during the course of the evening, it would go something like this, "Me, me, me, me. I'm special. Very special. Me, me, me. Look at me."
Not surprisingly, Gaga's final words of the night were about her favorite subject.
"Don't you ever (expletive) forget about me!" she warned the fans.
In short term, Gaga doesn't have to worry about being forgotten. Things could change, however, if she keeps putting on shows like the one we saw in San Jose on Thursday night.
----
The problem with being Lady Gaga is that no matter how pointy your shoes, how unwieldy your concert narratives, how sincere your calls for gay rights, or how vulgar your staging and outfits become, you are expected to supply ever more pointy, unwieldy, gay-friendly vulgarity. To provide a more shocking sensation than you did last time, regardless of the infinitesimal amount of Genuine Controversy that a competent white female Top 40 pop star can summon in 2013, gay rights support or no. And at some point, the burden of replicating that initial shock -- of continuing to be pointy, unwieldy, vulgar Lady Gaga -- becomes both extremely difficult, and a massive distraction from the actual music.
Who's to know. But Gaga doesn't seem dumb. She must understand that her clothes can only get so pointy, her concert plots only so contrived, her stages only so massive, before the entire spectacle turns into self-parody. Gaga's brand of shock -- paper-thin and borrowed largely from others -- wears off far more quickly than she can reinvent it.

A single US critic on the blog section of a website, so basically an unpaid intern.
Change the thread title to reflect that.

She'll live, the countless positive reviews make up for it

You should change the title to 'US Critic' seeing as it's the first bad review by one critic in about 6 months
edit: it was a blog post

True. I've seen some videos from the tour. She seems to be doing more talking than performing in the BTW Ball.

And even this review by a no name hater at a flop publication is STILL better than Billboard calling your mini tour the biggest disappointment of 2012.

You say "critics" as if there's more than one but the only one is from an indie music fan who didn't like Gaga to begin with. The tour has already received several positive review from US critics, including Rollingstone Magazine.
Fans disagree as well.

And not to be rude, Rihanna's last tour was plagued with bad reviews.

BTW ball is no way near bad.
But Monster Ball is superior than BTW ball for sure.

He does make good points though. When I saw the Monster Ball Tour, I was disappointed that she spent more time talking than singing. I can only imagine how long her monologues are this time around.
