But her design is really stunning, one of their best. That's her only redeeming feature but everything else: character, story, abilities, are sub-par at most.
The results for Japan’s female character vote is now in.
Much like the earlier male character poll which saw Zack (FFVII) as the over all winner, the fight for the top appears to have been fierce. Lightning came in at #1, just narrowly beating out Aerith after taking what was seemingly an early runaway lead. Aerith and Yuna, however, were fighting for the top spot from the very beginning.
46 character names in total were posted by fans and the results – although not as detailed as the previous poll – reflect a general opinion of Japan’s Final Fantasy Forum using fans.
Those with duplicate rankings held the same amount of votes, and are thus counted as a tied ranking. Check out the full compiled list below. Note that not all 46 names are represented here, as characters with too few votes are not represented.
Complete mess at Serah making Top 10 in that list. I refuse to take it seriously
Serah was a *****. She flirted with Noel all through the game but when she saw Snow it was a different story. She better be glad her magic power was high otherwise I would have used Noel the entire game.
Someone said Lightning was a good character and this was my response.
Long read but worth it.
In terms of Lightning being a good character i am not sure i agree. Even though Cloud is the most overrated FF hero ever he still was a well fleshed out character. We were able to see why he joined Soldier and everything else about his past.
In XIII we didn't know much about Lightning other than her name and that she was a soldier. We don't even know if she was a former PSICOM soldier or not only assume she was cause of how they were a big military force on Cocoon.
But if you read more into PSICOM you learn she was with the Guardian Corps, which is not told in XIII at all and since she was a fugitive her working with a counterpart of PSICOM would have added another layer to her story and would have made for an interesting piece when they confronted Yaag Rosch. Who in fact was her former instructor at the academy even though this was not mentioned in the game at all.
Vanille and Fang are well more developed than her and in some ways it should have been since she was not the lead protagonist anyway. But there still there was much room to tell us more about Lighting and why she hated Snow so much to the point she didn't want him marrying her sister.
Terra was more of a well thought out female protagonist.
I like Lightnings concept and was interested in her being more fleshed out as well as Serah but XIII-3 is clearly about Toriyama wanting us to like Lightning he even said how he wanted to alter her personality to make her more "human"
But a good number of fans don't care at this point and not cause of blind hatred for XIII but cause Lightning doesn't have the qualities or planned out background that makes us want to care about her and see her succeed.
If they worked on her character i as well as others would care but Toriyama is not a good writer and people don't care about Lightning cause of his own doing.
