You shouldn't let your feelings about their personal lives affect your opinion on the quality of the music. Regardless though, that doesn't change the fact that the majority of Unapologetic is trash. But I don't agree that "Do Ya Thang" set the tone for anything. It's only controversial if you want to make it controvesial. I'm just here to enjoy the music.
And if Rihanna forgives Chris that's all that matters. I don't agree with her decision, but there's no reason to hold a grudge over it if even she can forgive him.

The meaning behind a song is just as much part of what affects my judgment as the sound of the music. Maybe it doesn't bother you, but I find the Chris Brown duet and all the references to love "striking" and so on that crop up throughout Unapologetic to be very disturbing.
What bothers me about "Do Ya Thang" is that Rihanna is essentially condoning her man's womanizing in the lyrics. I think it's a terrible message—and in a way, it hinted at the Chris Brown apologizing to come on Unapologetic.

MANY of Rihanna's songs contain inappropriate meanings and messages. It's really become something that's expected of her at this point in her career.
I don't get why people are still bothered by it after the countless sex songs and things of that nature. She's simply not a role model.

Yes, goodbye! The "Love Without Tragedy" part is pretty decent but "Mother Mary" drags it down. Such a bore.
And I don't think you changed the tens on this song.

I'm so over you guys, I'm trying to guess what is that you don't like about it, probably how dark the lyrics are and that it's not so readily melodic.
I myself find the song so sincere, love the mixture of the painful and cold but not over-dramatic vocals with the simple instrumentation. Both parts of the song blend for me. This, if treated well could make up for a great single, though it simply may not happen because it's long for radio.
I don't know, this is one of my favorite songs by her, you can tell it's real when you compare a manufactured love song like "The One That Got Away' with it. This song is what differentiates Rih from other pop girls, you can feel she pours her heart into every song she's in.
