The independence is great but you also have to make sure that you do your work and keep on top of things. Professors won't hold you had and guide you through.
But it isn't all that bad being in college though. It's all what you make out of it.
I ****ing hate those group projects. It's always the same. Most of the other teammates do nothing or minimal work and it always ends up with me working my ass off to get a sufficient grade.
