We'll see what happens when it happens. Gaga had a lot of hype going into launching her last lead single, and from there she went on to alienate her core radio audience, which is something that Justin Timberlake didn't really do. He ended on a strong note, and he left people wanting more, leaving behind collaborations so that he hasn't really been completely absent from the scene. He's been around, just not as a lead artist.
Gaga isn't coming back from an extended leave, nor did she end her last era strongly. Her fans aren't really organized anymore either. They've been spending all their time the past year attacking other celebrities, in addition to each other... My question is, can they put aside their bickering to support the new single, or are they just going to waste their time and energy fighting each other and having meltdowns over whether they think the new song sounds like a hit or not?
That's not to say she won't start out strong, because she can. That's just the state of things right now.
|
Meltdowns are going to happen even if the song is the next "Let It Be", but if the song is good enough to please everybody the fanbase will come together to support it, just like it happened with FAME. The trailer was amazing and even just for a few weeks the whole fanbase felt connected to something nobody saw a flaw in and proved us that she still has it in her.
What makes you think that after Gaga gives us the music we all desire, we're going to lost our focus? Yes, we'll be glued to iTunes and radio updates, but at least we'll be wetting over new music. You know the state of the fanbase will be very different we ARTPOP's first single is released. It'll be chaos, but a chaos with a point.
I do wish we were a bit more patient and "go with the flow"-kinda people, instead of trying to predict how things are going to turn out and cling to exorbitant hopes about the album's yet-to-be-determined commercial performance.

I highly doubt Gaga fans would be a problem, you can't generalize ourselves like that All of these fights come from the fact that we stan harder for her than most of other fanbases do to their faves and we expect so much from her that we become negative, but at the end of the day we will obviously still be there to support her music. That's said, although we like to brag about "power", the fans alone can NOT make an artist to sell over 500K in a week, that's just impossible, JT is predicted to open with over 400K, would you say that it's because of his fanbase? Lady Gaga is still a very powerful name in the US and I'm sure most of the sales from the lead single will come off people's curiousity, not from the song's quality.
She will definitely have a good start. The era as a whole, on the other hand...

Lady Gaga is one of the biggest names in the world, and is arguably the biggest female pop-star of today. She'll be fine, with the power of her fanbase and the correct song, she'll do fine. Not to be to ambitious, but generally lead singles do well anyway, especially for big enough stars.

The only reason Gaga fans are a mess right now is because we have nothing else to do. No music to promote, no videos to watch, nothing, so we just bicker back and forth. Every time Gaga tweets, every monster co,Ew together even if for a few minutes. It will work out once the single drops. So stop.

LOL - I didn't type very coherently earlier.
"Tea" is a song-metaphor about Gaga and Taylor's relationship.

The fans were a mess the entire Born This Way era. All the reactions to the single choices (and the way they were handled) were mixed to negative.
BTW: it sounds too much like Madonna; she is going to get dragged for filth; these lyrics; why, Garibay? Why couldn't it have been RedOne
Judas: this was produced by RedOne; total smash! Oh but wait; it leaked! On Holy Week! Nooooooooo
The Edge Of Glory: it's cool, but it's killing the other single; WTF, that video - OMFG GAGA I HATE YOU
Yoü & I - this sounds too local; boring; she's been doing this song for over a year; total flop
Marry The Night: yes, this is the single we wanted! Wait. It's completely bombing? Nooooooo, my hours of calling and threatening radio hosts wasted! My life is overrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!11one!
Don't even act like that's not how it was
