On 2006's FutureSex/LoveSounds, Justin Timberlake looked forward in time to imagine what dance music in, say, 2013 might sound like. In actual 2013, he is looking backwards-- deep into the 1970s, in fact-- to reimagine old sounds and styles. While not quite as risky as "SexyBack" or as rewarding as "My Love", "Suit & Tie" is still one hell of a wedding reception jam, as bubbly as champagne. Timbaland creates a smooth beat out of a marimba roll and harp gliassando that Marvin Gaye must have left on the cutting-room floor, and Timberlake rides it with that fluid, effortless falsetto. "Let me show you a few things," he sings by way of seduction. Because it’s a song called "Suit & Tie", Jay-Z is on here, delivering the obligatory rapped verse like he's crashed a wedding. It's another in a string of uninspired cameos by Hova but even he can’t sink the song’s slinky vibe. Much like the sartorial combination of the title, this song is smartly modular-- mix-and-matchable, even-- with each section clearly marked by hard tempo changes.
I listen to '70s R&B and this isn't it. Pitchfork is at it again.
This has Robin Thicke written all over it, but had he released it Pitchfork wouldn't give it the time of day. He would have just been seen as a white guy doing generic R&B music, but since this bland track is Justin's "big comeback," it's like the greatest thing for R&B.

THIS pretty much. I mean I love the song, but it's not as great as his previous efforts.
S&T sounds like 3 songs in one just like in classic JT fashion the song has to have multiple layers in it which I appreciate. I just dont like the chopped n screwed intro and slowed down Jay verse. A jazz breakdown and great bridge would have been better IMO. Jay was not needed. The song is good but not mindblowing or great. Name recognition is the only thing that could make this song a hit. If any other R&B artist recorded it, the song wouldnt be huge

Pitchfork really loves Justin. They named "My Love" Best Song of 2006, so I'm not really surprised by their love.
