I actually think Hugh has a chance, especially since he is a first-timer, versus Daniel's two wins already. Plus, he may be one of the most likable men in Hollywood. And he basically carried that film (when Anne wasn't on screen)
It's actually just DDL, lol. If the Academy awards other actor, they will lose all credibility. It's the only acting category that's THAT predictable.
I think this is more indicative of how the timing of the Oscar nominations and everything came out. Les Mis is dead in the water as far as Oscar is concerned, but this does make SLP look less of a contender.
