Everyone I know has fond memories of a sibling getting one version, and them another. It's always been one of my favorite things. You have to pick your legendary early on and then you have to trade with others to get the pokemon you want.
There's lots of things that encourage playing with others, even some Pokemon only evolving by trading. I always liked how thought out it was.
