How long do you keep your phones before you upgrade and why?

I used to do it every year until I got my iPhone 4 I've had it since Jan. 2011. I'm getting an iPhone 5 on Sunday though. It's starting to break

Every two pretty much. It was 1.3 years this time because the screen on my phone got DECIMATED.

Quite often. In persepective, I've had 7 phones in the last 28 months. So that's on average every 4 months? One of those phones I only had for a day.

I've had 3 phones in total so not that often. I had my first one for ~2.5 years, my second for 1.5 years when my parents bought me a new one randomly that I've now had for about 6 months

It should be about two years. I'm about to call Verizon up and bitch to them about sending me these faulty phones though, I'm on my third phone and I haven't even had a phone for a year yet.

Like every 3 or 4 years i had the original IPhone for years and i got a 3gs like 2 and a half years ago My sister is getting me the 5 when i get the upgrade mostly because i let her have a lot of my upgrades.
