That could be true but the reason most Beyonce fans are defending this statement is that they know that she really is a humble person, so they understand what she meant by saying this. We're forgetting that we're missing intonation and phrasing. We're just reading a pulled out quote on the internet with whatever voice we want to use in our heads.

!!! They won't let go of their wigs if they ever say anything comparable to this. Why can't they just accept that this statement is indeed narcissistic and move on.

That she's her own person excuse is so damn tired like give it up girl. As you said, she's a role model and looked up by different generations. She could've said something motivational and uplifting instead of this mess. I mean WHitney always served them inspirational quotes during interviews.
