Okay. Let's pretend the Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. features exist.

What's wrong with the song? Yeah it's not perfect, but it's catchy, it has a nice beat by Solveig, and the lyrics are hilarious, Madonna sounds catty, and its overall enjoyable.

Why is this track more maligned than all of the other tracks on MDNA? Why do so many people put it as one of the worst songs of 2012?


I know this is just asking for it to be dragged but I don't understand. It's a solid song.

It's such an amazing song! It's so catchy and the video is great. People are just something else nowadays.

I like the song. The chorus is great, and i like MIA & Nicki's parts.

It's generic garbage which is just embarrassing for her of all people to be singing, because its just so out of character.

The song is annoying and just bad.

Because It's not as superior as some of the music she has released as lead singles in the past (Hung Up, American Life, Music, 4 Minutes) + People don't appreciate her as much as she deserves to be.

It's not a great song. It's hard to explain but there's something about that song that makes it boring and stale.

Maybe people were expecting something a bit more EDMish? That song was a different kind of dance-pop song from what was big at the time. It kind of preceded the Call Me Maybe/We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together kind of stuff before that sound was in. People probably thought Madonna was going to have her own Hold It Against Me/We Found Love type song instead.

It's one of the best on MDNA in my opinion...
It's catchy, Nicki's verse is FIRE MIA's is great as well. It's not the best, but it's still good.

it's bland boring and uninspiring and i'm being 100% honest here. I cant believe a vet like Madge would release that song as a lead single esp with the exposure of the superbowl. I know she said she wanted a light record cus of the toll the movie took on her but still that song is inexcusible. I cant believe anyone can defend it as anything but. It says alot when songs that were featured for less than a minute in halftime commercials performed way better on the charts than the premiere single of the headlining act. GMAYL is one of the worst songs of 2012. Im not being shady at all. I hold Madge to the highest standards in pop music. I expected better

I love this song. When she first released it I kept playing it non stop, playing it now!

It's certainly better than all of her releases after the Confessions era. :\

And I LOVED Nicki's part But M.I.A. could have kept her lazy rap that didn't make sense

I still like the song to be honest. I think it has to do with the fact that it comes from Madonna who - even though, again, I like the song - could do much better than that and it doesn't sound "right" for her to sing that song.

You have a good point. People expected Madonna to jump on the EDM trend, not to do something more campy/pure pop ish like GAYLUV. (But it really had nothing to do with ''Call Me Maybe''...)

And another thing GAYLUV really lacked is a CHORUS. All her uptempo lead singles had a huge chorus that is incredibly catchy and blows you away the second you hear it. This time we had to deal with Give me all your love and give me your love...? That's not the way we want it! People often forget how important an amazing chorus can be.
