I agree with Rated R, it brought a much better set of live performances. Part of that is that they made the songs more in her range and comfortable for her to sing.
I don't know if I'd say it brought anything new to the music industry, but it's a new direction for Rihanna. She steered away from uptempo pop smashes for this album.

I would have liked it more if LOUD, Talk That Talk and Unapologetic were EP's and altogether considered a trilogy album a la Body Talk. That would have had more substance.
