This is the case with any genre of music that hits the mainstream these days. We only get the dumbed down version, and it tarnishes the genre's reputation as a whole. Radio won't break away from anything that's not generic, with some very minor exceptions.

It's too bad that Rihanna isn't passionate about EDM. She was fortunate to have Calvin Harris for WFL and WHYB. Both songs were huge in the EDM world and both were praised by critics as "something that wouldn't seem out of place at EDC." If she was passionate about it, she would discover so many disticnt sounds from different DJs, all of which would work great with her voice.

That article is complete nonsense. It says in Europe that the charts were almost entirely EDM for the past 20 years. That's very far from the truth. Even now it's not true. In the top 10 on UK iTunes a couple of weeks ago it was 9 acoustic/slow songs, the only dance song was Gangnam Style.

Bring it on.

If anything I hope we get a more 90s House sound this year. Something like "Gypsy Woman" or "Finally" or "Show Me Love." House tracks with pounding deep beats and most of all POWERHOUSE VOCALS.

She may like to perform them, but she's evidently not too familiar with the genre in general. Of course she wanted Calvin to produce for her again though... He produced the biggest hit of her career. But it seems like Calvin originally reached out to her, not the other way around. Hopefully one day she will see the light and she can collaborate with the geniuses of EDM.
