Radio is still important, but it's been slightly became less significant in the last few years. I see nothing wrong with few cents while gaining new listener.

I guess I am an old school person. I got into country music in 1997 thanks to gac and the music videos they played endlessly.

But I really didn't get into cd's til I bought Hank Williams 2 DISC CD. Then it was Vern Gosdin, then it was Johnny Cash. Josh Turner turned me onto Waylon, Merle, and George Jones in 2004-2005. Big and Rich, and Gretchen Wilson also got me into them as well as Hank Jr, and Charlie Daniels.

I loved Garth, Shania, Faith, Tim, Kenny, Lonestar in the mid 2000's, but it was the bunch above who turned me on to the old country.

That's how music should be. Discovering the new with the old.
Carrie, Miranda, and even Kelly Clarkson, and Kelli Pickler does a great job carrying on that tradition singing songs by Tammy, Merle, etc....

Taylor who is spreading country music everywhere is doing pop songs by pop artists.
It's a shame she is covering pop songs and even though she may turn people onto country music, they only look toward the current artists.

I think the one thing that annoys me the most about people classifying Taylor(and I'm not saying you are classifying her) is that they say her album is pop, and now I understand that it isn't entirely country but for me their are more songs that fit the current country sound then their are songs that fit the current pop sound. The other songs that don't fit either would be alternative or rock influenced songs. Now about the tradition of spreading country music by covering songs, I don't really care much about that. Some artists in the genre are just posers(atleast they seem that way to me) who sing songs and are considered country just by name dropping Hank, Willie, and Waylon but not really bringing any substance to their music. Now you might feel differently about it but people shouldn't make music trying to promote older acts. As an artist I expect you to use their music to influence your own and alot of Taylor's music to me has influence from many artist's(some of them country i.e Dolly, Shania, Faith, Dixie Chicks and some of it pop and even some from folk and rock music). Now if it leads people to look for older country like me then that is good but as an artist you really shouldn't care too much about those things and just do what you personally feel is good to do.

Being Country doesn't have to follow the basic Nashville shite, right? I'm tired of this is that one is Country if he/she is as basic as his/her peers. Plus the real Country artists ain't selling, i.e: Brandi Carlile, Elizabeth Brooks, Justin Townes Earle, and many others. The ones that are the Nashville poster boys/girls are not more Country than the Lord because: 1) Their production is basically '80s arena rock or Pop with mandolin, banjo, and fiddle; 2)Their twangy style.

Looking back at the '80s, there were PLENTY of real Country acts and the outlaws who didn't sing with twang or not having pedal steel guitar in their music. Since when is there a checklist of requirements for one to be called Country? Since when does a Country song means it HAS to have: banjos, pedal steel guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and twang? You can tell it's a Country song by heart.

Following tradition while has no substance is stupid imo. He/she should do whatever he/she likes to.

Taylor DID promote the older acts tho. And as I said on my previous post, she's more of a Ryan Adams than Carrie Underwood.

Calling Taylor as not Country while promoting the other Nashville garbage is like pot calling the kettle black. I don't use.
