Look at the streaming chart. Most hip hop songs do very well in there, especially Thrift Shop, Swimming Pools, Rack City, ****** in Paris, all of Drake's songs, etc. ****in' Problems is also shaping out to be a big streaming hit as well.
I can understand that, they are very catchy, and I find myself wanting to listen to songs like that all the time.
Also, a lot of them seemed to get big boosts from the gift cards last week (makes sense since most of the recipients of gift cards are probably teenagers).

Just because the #1 song didn't sell more than expected, it seemed that the sales were spread robustly amongst a lot of songs.

That makes sense. It's interesting how streaming is so rock and hip hop infleunced while iTunes is more dance and pop. Makes you wonder what that says about iTunes demographics and Spotify demographics

I read somewhere that the most of the iTunes buyers are females.
Not sure about Spotify, etc, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were mainly males using those, since males tend to like alternative, hip hop and rock-ish music more compared to females.
Also age, I would guess people that stream would be on average younger than people who download, because it tends to be the younger generation that get onto newer technologies first.

That's exactly what I was thinking too, that iTunes buyers must be more female because the music tends to be more pop and dance driven. But I didn't know if that would come off the wrong way, so I didnt say it lol  
But yeah, I agree Spotify listeners must be more male because its more rock and hip hop driven

I doubt that charts would be more realistic if sales count more and streaming less. The only thing that should count less, zero if it was for me  should be airplay. In fact, both sales and streaming reflect what GP likes and the one doesn't do it better than the other but they both represent different tastes towards music and that's right. With a sales/streaming combined charts we should see what does the public generally like. Don't know if I exposed it well
