This. There will always be good club tunes in the charts. Like in the mid-00s there were loads of crunk songs in the chart, many of which were synth heavy just like what we've got today.
And you can dance to most genres of music. I feel like some people that post here haven't even been clubbing before, because in many clubs you hear more urban stuff than you do pop stuff, and it's just as fun. I even heard Crew Love by Drake in a club once, and at first I was like WTF, but those synths and the lights, it was honestly magical, and everybody was dancing and singing along. So it's not a big deal if the RedOne/Dr. Luke style of music disappears imo, there's other stuff that will replace it.

I see something similar to this year-more indie/alt pop songs with regular dance pop.

The next big trend in music, at least in America, is Indie Folk (Imagine Dragons, The Lumineers, Ed Sheeran, Phillip Phillips, Of Monsters and Men) and alternative-sounding pop/rock that is also HAC/AC friendly (Alex Clare, Foster the People Gotye, Fun.).
Indie Folk, Indie Pop, Alternative Rock will rule the airwaves for the next 3-4 years.

I doubt EDM becoming popular in America, I can only see it on Europe. What you said is most likely since this is more geared to an American audience, while EDM seems more European.

Sounds tend to intensify as time goes on. See how
R&b flavored pop became rhythmic pop became hip hop flavored pop became R&B
Or how
Rythmic electro pop became electro pop became dance pop became EDM type stuff
So I could see all these "alt" sounds that are in possibly leading back to more of the traditional sounds people associate with rock instead of current "alt"
If someone is smart too, there are some urban trends like the alt R£b sound which are one mainstream melody away from breaking though

I don't think it's EDM.
I'm thinking more traditional pop songs a la Call Me Maybe, WANEGBT, etc., along with indie pop stuffs.

Dance pop must be on it's way out now, it started a long ass time ago, Blackout, The Fame was late 00's, LMFAO was a huge hit and almost all the pop artists used it but it has to decline at some point and 2013 might be the year. Alternative/Indie could be the next big trend.

Dream Pop needs to happen. I think this alternative/folk/indie trend will stay popular for a while though.

EDM meets R&B! It's already happening in South Korea, and Rihanna has caught up to the trend. The rest will follow.
