TRACKS 21-25

	25. Ho Hey by The Lumineers About as good as pop folk gets. It's short, light, catchy, and full of spirit. A welcome indie crossover hit.
	24. Sleeping Ute by Grizzly Bear I promise this deserves a spot on the soundtrack of a new age Western.
	23. Myth by Beach House I actually didn't know which Beach House track I liked the most, but I felt like at least one of them needed to be on my list. This song reminds me of the transition from 8-bit game music to the more complex theme songs of the late '90s Final Fantasy days. It reminds me of my childhood, and it's the perfect start to a great album.
	22. Firewater by Django Django I don't even know what to make of this 1960s-inspired Beach Boys experimental electro-pop.
	21. Emmylou by First Aid Kit Probably my favorite folk song of the year. Beautiful.

TRACKS 16-20

	20. All of Me by Tanlines I first heard this song at about 3am one night when a friend was driving us back to our apartment. Something about it just felt right. Like this song IS this year. Like the emotion in it captures the first half of my last year of college: the transition, the new friends, the future, big decisions, and great memories.
	19. Bad Girls by M.I.A. What kind of monster smash of an indie pop song with I'm-a-mother-****ing-thug-in-the-Middle-East production?
	18. What Makes You Beautiful by One Direction The boy band song to end all other boy band songs this year. It was nice to see a mini-revival of the a phenomenon that dominated the charts in my childhood years, and this song is a real gem. It's bright, it's summery, it's ridiculously adorable, and it's a juggernaut of a pop song.
	17. The House That Heaven Built by Japandroids Ah, our first anthemic song. For me, this song is high school. It's about remembering those drunken adolescent nights, all of the wasted hours and all of the stupid decisions and how you'd like nothing more than to go back and do it again.
	16. Home by Phillip Phillips In a lot of ways, this song (along with Call Me Maybe) came to characterize the happiest times of the year, summer and the Olympic Games. It's fantastic pop, minimalist and effective. The lyrics are limited and well-chosen, and the huge backing vocals add that anthemic touch that drives the song over the edge. As if it that weren't enough, it's flat out the most touching romantic song of the year. There's something so simple about the idea of the song, but it's just about the best pop has to offer right now in terms of a sophisticated and relatable outlook on love. For me personally, there are a lot of traits that may draw me to a person initially, but in the end, it only works out if I feel at home around that person. Turning that idea into an Olympic anthem and almost religious country-rode singalong is worthy of my applause.

	15. I Always Knew by The Vaccines This was the first song from this year that I "loved" on last.fm, and I guess it has a lot to do with that The Sandlot-type of nostalgia that seems so real even though I'm not sure I really grew up in a parallel situation.
	14. Adorn by Miguel Passionate and relentless, Miguel serves up the best he has to offer here on this short blast of R&B greatness over a sexy and powerful production.
	13. Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepsen There's not much to say about this one. The pick-up line of the year. A super-duper mega pop hit sent from heaven and sanctioned by Justin Bieber. What else is there to say?
	12. Hold On by Alabama Shakes This is rock done right. This is rock that you've heard a million times before but rarely this good.
	11. Comeback Kid by Sleigh Bells I have a lot of strange memories that go along with this song. For me, their second studio album was more than a tad disappointing, and this song is a brief 3 minute return to the youthful, euphoric messiness of Treats. Most people seemed to sort of roll over "Comeback Kid" as an average song, but it's the highlight of the album for me, even moreso than "Demons", and it sees Sleigh Bells making their most formidable pop song since "Rill Rill".
