yeah that was really retro-throwbacky from Gaga
let's face the facts - BTW is just one of the generic songs from that time in popular music when We R Who We R, Effing Perfect and Firework were ruling the charts and "It gets better" was the it phrase.
IKAG was and still is a risky choice especially for a first single.
Thank God, Kathryn slayed with that song.

If Gaga doesn't release anything risky, then neither does Katy.

Love Game - Talking about riding a DICK
You and I - The first ballad she ever released and ballads don't smash that often anymore (sans Adele)
Bad Romance - I explained in the post.

Express Yourself is about women being themselves no matter what men say and not letting men change you.

Because they think Lady Gaga takes a risk with everything she does. fff Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR songs about loving yourself/"it gets better" were popular WHILE (and even before) Born This Way came around. Acting like Firework, We R Who We R, ****in' Perfect, and Raise Your Glass don't exist, then label BTW risky. nnn

Just like CG was a Ke$ha rip-off then, sure. BTW did have a retro feel whether you like it or not. It wasn't just catering to what was popular on radio at the time. And nah, it was a clear grab for attention after her first attention seeking song, Ur So Gay, bombed. It worked though because IKAG was perfectly crafted for radio and sold on the typical "sexy girl wanting to kiss other girls, how intriguing" angle.

Who the hell is Katy Hudson? Is that her Gospel album? How is OOTB NOT generic? Just because it has a couple of guitar riffs, does not mean it isn't generic.

I can't with the REACH in this post.
Kathryn Hudson does not make generic music and it would be really dumb on your part to argue.

10% is still a MINORITY. That means 90% of the rest of the world is straight.

The fact that it was her debut single was risky, Just Dance was safe, Pon de Replay was safe, TiK ToK was safe, IKAG wasn't, that song was too controversial at the time and it screamed one hit wonder

LoveGame was a catchy pop song, catered for pop radio. Y&I was a safe (and basic) country ballad. Nothing more, nothing less. And considering that Wide Awake is labeled as a safe ballad, then Y&I is too. Bad Romance, ch I'll leave you to believe what you want.

What's risky about I Kissed A Girl? She was unknown by the public at the time so there was really no risk. At all. Stop acting like she was some well-known artist who took a huge career risk.
Risk taking and Katy Perry don't really go hand in hand. And that's fine, but don't make it more than what it is.
