YOUR Health Is NOT Beyonce’s Problem.
Quote:
... But after reading the article, I deciding to read the comments and then became INSTANTLY annoyed at the fact that people took her to task for NOT being a better advocate of healthy living. Oh, go F*^K yourselves.
At the end of the day, Beyonce is an ENTREPRENEUR, out here living her life trying to create the best world possible for her and her family. The idea that she must remove herself from the same grind we ALL go through in order to “save” people from a cause they aren’t even asking or willing to be “saved” from, is extremely ignorant. Beyonce didn’t invent Pepsi anymore than she invented Gingivitis, so why is it now HER job to be the main social steward of healthy living?
In fact, why is it ANY entertainers job to parse ALL of their economic opportunities through the lens of being a social steward? Not only is that a problem symptomatic of a broken society, but that’s an anti-intellectual way to view capitalism, democracy and free choice. If YOU believe an issue is really a HUGE problem, then our society should rally around the intellectual leaders on that topic and aim to make change, NOT forcing people who sing, dance and act to carry the torch of complex and layered social issues. Their job is to keep the lights on in their own homes, and we should never ask any more or any less from them, because, AT SOME POINT, we all collectively need to STOP using the excuse that ‘all of us out here are TOO STUPID to think for ourselves or form an original thought on a meaningful issue unless a celebrity broaches it for us. In 2012, that excuse needs to DIE.
She’s a singer – not the messiah..
But the main reason Beyonce shouldn’t give 2 sh*ts about the people who believe she is “damn-near evil” for accepting this money, is because Americans have ALREADY proven they are adverse to listening to people about improving their health. As much as Beyonce is a popular singer, I remember when Michelle Obama, THE FIRST-LADY OF THE UNITED STATES, was trying to push her “Let’s Move” campaign and received a TON of negative feedback from people claiming she was trying to dictate what people could and could not eat. Of course, she was NOT doing that at all, but nonetheless, she was SLAMMED from all angles because of this initiative. For people who so easily derided Michelle Obama’s efforts at promoting healthy life styles (a woman we definitely SHOULD be listening to), this is NOT the same community who can go in on Bey for deciding to focus on profits.
At the end of the day, if ALL of you are SO aware of how terrible unhealthy Pepsi is, we should all collectively have no issues purchasing this teeth-rotting crap no matter WHO endorses it, right?!
