I'm to buy my tablet on Saturday as a Christmas/New Years gift from a friend, however, i don't know which would be better for me. So could you guys vote on your preference and state the pros and cons, thanks.
Apple doesn't sell the iPad 3 anymore. Only the Mini and the 4th & 2nd Gen.
I wouldn't recommend the Note. If you want a larger tablet I'd go for an iPad or Nexus 10. If you want a smaller tablet, the Mini or Nexus 7 are great choices. There are more tablet apps for the iPad than Android so you are probably going to get a better, all around experience with an iPad. Also if your friend is already in the iOS ecosystem, an iPad makes more sense
Basically pick the OS of choice and the size of choice and your decision becomes pretty easy. I find 10 inches to be better for people that want to do actual productivity with their tablet, typing up docs, editing photo, and wanting to use it as a semi laptop replacement. 7 inches is better for just about everything else, portability, reading, and gaming because the controls feel more natural and ergonomic, and as light and thin as the 10 inch tablets have become they are both a pain in the ass to hold in bed for example for extended periods of time.
I'm not going to argue iOS vs Android because that's opinionated but to put it short I personally find iOS has better app selection but a worst OS, and Android has the better OS and services with worst app selection. Also, the app selection issue closes some if you want the 7 inch tablet.
So basically for most people(that don't have any strong preferences towards OS choice) I would say. Nexus 7 if you want a 7 inch tablet and iPad 4th Gen if you want 10 inches.
The Nexus 7 is by far the best bang for your buck though.
I'd wait a few months, there's going to be some big announcements in February. If you want to get something right now, the Nexus 7 is truly phenomenal for $199. I absolutely adore mine. I use it for reading and internet and its just perfect!

That's going to be so dated in another 4 months...... and I say this as an owner of an iPad 3.
