I checked out the Billboard Woman of the Year issue from the library, and there's a lot of new info.
Random:
-The lead singer of JJAMZ (Heartbeat) is Katy's friend.
-"I like being an inspiration and coming off as a strong female, but I don't feel that way every day. And that's okay. Sometimes I feel artists get to wrapped up in trying to have strong, inspirational messages, and not everyone feels that way. There needs to be a balance."
-She talks about the return of Saturn or the milestone of adulthood, which she thinks she started at 27. "I feel like I'm growing up, and enjoying it.
My taste buds are changing and I'm excited about that. ... Sometimes I want to see the darkness to know that it really exists."
-HKT tour grossed in total 1 million and drew 52,000 people.
Her Management...
-Bradford Cobb (her manager): "Nobody 'made' Katy Perry. It makes us cringe when we hear people who don't know or don't realize she writes her own songs." "She motivated herself. She'd come in every couple of weeks and bring her acoustic guitar into our office and say, 'You guys have to hear this,' and have something new to play for us. It was always exciting."
-The era wasn't totally planned out. They spent a lot of time looking at things, but it went pretty smoothly. The decision to release E.T. was Katy's and she was very passionate about it.
-Warped Tour and HKT were very important parts to cementing Katy as more than a pop act.
-Bradford Cobb was actually surprised at the sound of TD and how "pop" it was.
Katy is NOT Local
-From the beginning (IKAG), radio stations had been very interested in Katy, especially in Europe, where they begged to play IKAG but couldn't because it hadn't been released WW yet.
-Part of Me grossed 7.1 mill overseas
-Katy's sold >5.4 mil albums overseas
-CDT tickets: 750,000 sold in NA, 500,000 in Europe, 263,000 in UK, 125,000 in Australia, 200,000 in other parts of the world.
-Her booking agent says "We're seeing a massive interest in China and India. These places are catching up with other markets. She has already established herself as a global superstar."
-This year alone, she has performed in India, Singapore, Germany, and Dubai.
-CDT in Europe "barely scratched the surface." They could've sold many more shows and tickets and the demand was there. The next time she plays in Paris Katy will book the 17,000 capacity stadium.
-CDT was highly successful in Australia, grossing 2 million plus at each show in Brisbane.
-She also grossed 2 million in Sao Paulo after Rock in Rio.
Overall, expect her to explode WW next era.
Next Era...
-Her tour manager estimates her next tour will arrive in 2014, and planning has already started.
-Coty and Katy have almost finished working on her brand new fragrance, which will be released in 2013.
