Not all that absurd, unfortunately. A huge chunk (about half) of America are still homophobes and extremely right-wing, just like Romney. George W. Bush was able to safely use his opposition to gay rights as a pillar of his re-election campaign and that was just 8 years ago - and he won. And until last month, no pro-gay ballot initiative had ever passed in the US. And it's no surprise so many Americans vote along party lines regardless of Romney's flip-flopping.

Still, Romney did get relatively clobbered. A 4% popular vote difference is enormous, especially in presidential elections.

Theres going to come a point where white men will become less and less significant in determining who wins each election year, so either Republicans become more centered or the 93% of African-Americans, 70% of Latinos, and 73% of Asians who voted Democrat last election will prevent Republicans from being able to control either the Senate or the White House.

That is just the simple truth of it all.

Well in 2000, the Pew Research Center had 37% of the American public favoring gay marriage, in 2011 that number was 46% favoring gay marriage, the first time in history that more people supported gay marriage than opposed it. While eight an eleven year difference is a short time, it is obvious the advancements that America has made in regards to some social issues. If this trend continues, then the Republican Party is not going to be able to continue to have such strict social issue views.
