Neither Katy nor Rihanna have surpassed Gaga. Katy's lack of star power and general relevance WW is far less than Gaga's. Rihanna is the 2nd biggest pop star in the world, she hasn't surpassed Gaga, especially with her album sales and her album being 53 on iTunes during the holiday season w/a number 1 single, not to mention that it still hasn't outsold BTW's first week US album sales WW yet.

Her tour grossed over $120 million already, her fragrance launch was record breaking, she caused huge controversy with the tour due to religious issues, and gained headlines because of her weight gain, her fur usage, and Madonna. Forbes listed her as being more talked about than any of them based on headlines. Overall, despite no new music, she's still a bigger celebrity.

BTW's start has nothing to do with the current standing of Rihanna or Katy. Gaga's fans unfairly using the kick-off to make her seem as big as she was at the end.

ARTPOP's opening numbers will be interesting.

And you're right about ARTPOP's opening numbers, we'll see if we've been too cocky or whether we were justified in thinking that Gaga was/is the biggest pop star in the world.

Of course, you see, album sales are even worse this year than they were last year. A lot of artists are struggling to go Gold these days.

Consider this: there is a strong possibility that Gaga won't make it to 2x Platinum this time around. That doesn't even have so much to do with starpower as it is the fact that the industry as a whole is **** right now.

BTW's sales were struggling after TEOG, everyone knows that. Again, the start of the era makes it seem better than it was. As it went along (quickly), Gaga began stumbling and losing her top status, not in May.

Your acting as though her status as a pop star invalidates all other success or notoriety she receives if she's not in a musical release period. She's earning success outside of the pop field; that's why I said that she's not as relevant as a pop star, but is still at the top as a celebrity.
