It's so weird to see Hilary spending time with her father. It's quite clear their relationship is so strained. Hilary's mother described it during those legal troubles mentioned above, and he didn't even attend Hilary's wedding, let alone walk her down the aisle. I can't help but feel very bitter towards him but I don't know the whole story I guess. Hilary has mentioned texting with her father recently so maybe they've been communicating and trying to re-build their relationship. That's good. I hope he is good to her and doesn't emotionally run out on her again. Hilary is so strong to still be so level headed after that. That would be really tough.

I don't think she did. In court she explained that Hilary basically supported her and paid all her bills. Also I think part of it was about the principle of the matter too. Susan knew Hilary was hurting because of all the troubles with her dad, and her mom thought it'd only be fair that he put the same amount of money into Hilary's birthday as he did for her sisters earlier that year. Not because Hilary or anyone really NEEDED the money, but just to show fairness between the siblings. Susan was probably feeling very bad for her daughter and the way her father was being to her, but there's only so much Susan can do. This is probably one way she felt she could actually control something. Crazy how divorce can be so tricky and hard for people even when the kids are grown up
