I think it wouldve debuted higher if it wasn't pushed back a month. But then again, it really was a weak album and SW was a weak lead single.

That was different though. THe album was first released without HDL and debuted at #5. And then with the release of HDL and re-release of the album, I recall the album jumping from 98 to 6 or something. If it had been initially released together, maybe.

Regardless, the song was massive.

My thoughts are she will most likely never have a song as big as "Hips Don't Lie". Therefore, if the previous #1 didn't help her out then, then she will most likely be out of luck considering her down spiral album sales and sales from today's physical albums. JMHO.

Waka Waka was huge (except in the Anglo world) so her having another huge hit isn't that far fetched.

She should have pushed Rabiosa, Addicted to You and even Loca in the US. I'm still surprised Sale El Sol debuted so high here.

Probably not but you never know. The album 'Sale el Sol' was the best selling Spanish album of 2010 and 2011. It wasn't even aimed to the English speaking countries since it's mostly all Spanish and it still peaked in the top 10. I know it didn't have as big of a debut as Born This Way or Femme Fatale but people seem to forget the Spanish market in the US is MUCH smaller. Even at that, went 3x platinum in Latin certifications.

She'll have to do a lot of promo and have a big hit if she wants the album to debut in the top 5 though.

"Waka Waka" wasn't as big as "HDL" though. And the other singles you mentioned weren't strong singles.

"Rabiosa" & "Loca" sounded the same. And "Loca" was a cheap remake [no shade] of El Cata's own "Loca Con Su Tiguere" from 2008. It wasn't new or original and El Cata's version was very well known within the Latino community [Dominican, Puerto Rican, etc] and Latin club scene so her song already sounded late imo.

Actually there was no hype there at all. The hype was all in the European, Latin American and Asian countries where football is biggest. No one really cares for that sport in the US, Australia which is why no one actually really heard of the song.

You don't need to have a single as massive as a former one to go #1, though. See Rihanna only now getting a #1 album with "Diamonds," even though "WFL" was 20x more massive. She also isn't "out of luck" from spiraling album sales. With The Voice on her side and only if she releases something good, she could do it.

Sales from today's physical albums also help her case, rather than hurt them as you're saying. If she released anywhere January-May, she can easily hit the top 40-70k.

The public only knows her for "HDL" and a few other tracks than her actual albums since she is alot more known within the Latin community that is a fact.

So... with The voice coming out, is shakira releasing an english cd soon?

She even recorded a video for the song called "Truth Or Dare" a few months ago but the release got cancelled because of her pregnancy.

Its possible, I think. But it depends on the day of release and on competition.
