Some have criticized this project for being all visuals and no music, but I just can't disagree more! Songs like Play are just so inventive for the electropop genre. The mixing of swing and straight time signatures here creates a really interesting track, and the hooks show a great understanding of pop sensibilities. Just a really interesting, enjoyable track, one of the project's best to date. In fact I'd say the visuals are a bit underwhelming for how grand the track is!
Got to love how "Losing You" just popped into late 2012 music landscape to become one of the most loved and best songs of the year. Great to see "play" here too.
8. No Doubt feat. Major Lazer & Busy Signal - Push and Shove
Most undeserved flop of the year! Just an all around excellent track that manages to combine about 5 different genres without sounding messy at all. The dubstep influence of the chorus is great without being overdone, and it does a great job balancing the role of the band with Major Lazer's production. Busy Signal of course sounds great, and the third verse where he and Gwen trade bars is awesome. The melodies are all killer and the last minute or so is just epic. The public just has no taste!
