One of the most interesting new acts this year. At first I was a little reluctant cause I thought they were just another band jumping on the indie bandwaggon but then I listened to a few of their album tracks in Youtube and I was hooked. 2013 will be a great year for them.
Madonna feat. Nicki Minaj & M.I.A. "Give Me All Your Luvin'"
I still find it funny how this song went from being the most controversial and discussed topic on the internet 10 months ago to a very well forgotten flop now. For what it's worth I think the song is very catchy and its video was hilarious.
Muse "Madness"
When I first heard this song I hated it. I remember thinking they were sell outs who were seeking for a hit song. It eventually grew on me and now I think that, rather than being sell outs, they're just prooving they're very versatile and able to bring something different.
Nicki Minaj "Starships"
For two consecutive years Nicki Minaj has taken the crown for the biggest guilty pleasure of the year. This time, however, I was badly infected with her song. It's just too messy and tongue-in-cheeky to be ignored, who am I fooling? I loved it.
ADELE "Rumour Has It"
First of three appearances by Adele. After what could only be described as a massacre, Adele kept it relatively quiet in 2012. I remember this song was one of my favorite songs in "21" but now that it was released (or sort of) I think it was better as an album track.
fun. "Carry On"
First of three appearances by fun. My favorite newcomer band of the year. This song is very different from their previous singles (and I hope it doesn't flop for that) but it's got something that makes it sound rather unique. Perfect for the winter time.
Nelly Furtado "Spirit Indestructible"
If someone said four years from now that Nelly Furtado's new English album was going to be released in 2012 and that her highest charting song was #54 I wouldn't believe it. But sadly it's true, despite being my favorite single of TSI, it's just as far as it can go.
Nickelback "Lullaby"
It was about time Nickelback would release one of their signature story-telling music videos. I remember I used to think this was a little boring when i first listened to it but it grew on me quite a lot after the video and ironically it's their highest charting song this year in my cd.
Ellie Goulding "Anything Could Happen"
Owl City, Nicki Minaj and other sellouts should be taking notes from Ellie. She incorporated a new electronic vibe in her music for this album but yet she remains with her feet on the ground and sounding like no one but herself. Amazing song and video.
Taylor Swift feat. Paula Fernandes "Long Live"
Fifth of a total of eight appearances by Taylor Swift. This song was and still is one of my favorite tracks of Speak Now. It's just so meaningful and it sounds way better when it's played live. I'm so glad that it was released (at least in a few countries).

I kind of hate it when that happens. A really good song starts charting during late November/December and one doesn't know whether to chart it high or low on that same year YECD.

but i must say this set is really outstanding
and with that starships writeups, it's really my biggest guilty pleasure this year same as what super bass did last year to me
and agree with rumour has it. i really love it before, but when it's released as a single, i prefer that song back to album track. don't know why
and finally i find the reason why you charted madness in your countdown
