# 9 Fun. - Some Nights
Fun. definitely was
the upcoming band this year. Well deserved, I might have to add. With their first single "We Are Young" (which I only listened to because I love Janelle Monáe, I must admit) started to grow on me after a while and I liked their sound which is so different from everything else on the radio right now. I started to like their general sound as well and so I bought their album. "Some Nights" explores themes of youth, self-acceptance, and revolutionary feelings. Although it is not considered a concept album, it stays lyrically close to these themes. Fun. wants me to found my own band in a garage and play in small bars and college parties. This album has definitely gotten me deeper into Indie and alternative music.

#8 Alicia Keys - Girl On Fire

Alicia, the Princess of R'n'B is back! With her 6th album, she more than convinces critics that her place at the top is still deserved. With "Girl On Fire", Alicia takes the confidence she has always conveyed to a whole new level. The album opens, yet again, with a piano intro which leads into her second single: Brand New Me. The first half of the album explores new musical themes: Alicia's sound has become deeper and creates an atmosphere that takes its listeners to a different world. She also mixes elements of hip-hop with her traditional R'n'B sound, although not as heavily as on her debut "Songs In A Minor". The second half of the album takes Alicia back to her usual terrain: the slow piano ballads. "Fire We Make" reminds me a little of "This Bed" on her previous album and the other songs inch sonically closer to "The Element of Freedom" as well.
All in all, Alicia has released one of her best records with "Girl On Fire". I especially like the atmosphere of the first part and her new sound. Definitely one of the best records this year.
Only minus: I would have preferred the single version of "Girl On Fire" instead of the Inferno Version.
