BTW is hardly "generic dance music," and neither is Bad Romance. That's why the latter is one of the biggest pop cultural moments recently.
With that said, I agree that Gaga is a fashion icon moreso than a music icon but that's the case with a lot of cultural stars. Their a brand/image instead of a musician. Gaga hasn't been around long enough to be at Britney's level though in addition to that
