Will Beyoncé donate $50M to treat diabetes, obesity, etc.?
Quote:
A nutrition watchdog urged Beyoncé Knowles to rethink her $50 milllion deal with Pepsi as the soft drink's "brand ambassador."
In a letter to the pop star, the Center for Science in the Public Interest told Beyoncé that by lending her name and image to the product, she is linking her "positive attributes with a product that is quite literally sickening Americans" and is associated with weight gain, obesity, diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease.
Along with offering Beyoncé a raft of statistics linking sugary drinks to disease, the CSPI also made the argument that almost all of obesity-related health problems have a disproportionate impact on low-income, African-American and Hispanic communities.
If Beyoncé goes ahead with the deal (it is after all, a nice chunk of change), then Michael Jacobson, CSPI's executive director, suggested that she "consider donating your proceeds to a hospital, diabetes organization, or another reputable charity involved in the prevention or treatment of soda-related diseases."
"I imagine that it must be hard for anyone to turn away $50 million. But this endorsement deal strikes me as particularly inappropriate, considering your popularity with America's young people and the extent to which Pepsi and other sugar drinks promote disease," Jacobson wrote.
CSPI and other health advocates have been at war with the soft drink industry, coming off a big victory in New York where Mayor Michael Bloomberg managed to ban the 16 oz. soda serving.
Indra Nooyi, chairman and CEO of PepsiCo and Roger Goodell, commissioner of the National Football League, were copied on the CSPI's letter. Pepsi and Beyoncé could not immediately be reached.

She should release a Pepsi Cake remix so people would care a little less.

So stupid. People are responsible for their own choices. If they overindulge on junk food and soda, they have nobody to blame but themselves for their weight and/or medical problems. There's a whole ****ing section of the supermarket dedicated to fruits, veggies, and other healthy foods and drinks, it's not Pepsi or Beyonce's fault that you drink 4 or 5 sodas a day (and trust me, many people do).
Beyonce earned this money legitimately and they can remain pressed because they won't see a cent of it.

Why would she donate 50mill when that's not even what she receives? They are putting 50 milllion in her pepsi's campaign + album's campaign. But I love how they are making such a huge deal out of that deal.
Oh and...

The letter should have been written in 2002.

You really are clueless, aren't you?
Beyonce has done work with Michelle Obama promoting exercise and neatly diet nationwide.
It sort of is a conflict of interest to have Pepsi paying you 50 million to endorse a product that's basically sugar water, and is largely contributing to the obesity problem in this country.

She signed with Pepsi in 2002 and has done work with Michelle Obama telling young people around the world to do sport hence the " Move Your Body" campaign. There is nowhere in that where she prohibited the consumption of fats or sodas. There is no contradiction whatsoever.

But she's been with pepsi 4 10 years though. Why is it a problem all of a sudden?

I don't care if Beyonce is doing this for Pepsi. Get your money and promo :
But y'all are acting as if there isn't at least some conflict that people who cared about could complain about.

Beyoncé brought her contribution to that campaign by promoting sports not by telling people to eat healthy. Come again.

Not a conflict of interest at all. You can live a perfectly healthy life while drinking soda, so long as you do it in moderation. In fact, the same is true for just about most anything you can buy in the supermarket. Overindulgence in almost anything can lead to negative health effects.
And what do you think would happen if we suddenly banned all sodas? Americans would complain and demand to have it back. Hell, look what's happened in NYC when they started banning large size sodas. Pepsi isn't forcing anyone to drink anything, they are selling a product that Americans WANT to buy. If they didn't sell it, they'd just buy it from somewhere else. It is up to the CONSUMER to make the right choices in terms of their own health.

Because she booked a $50 million deal now
---
dead at "promoting obesity" like a fat person won't be a fat person before and after they drink the soda. They don't HAVE to drink it. And why didn't they lash out at the new artists who recently signed Pepsi deals and did commercials? Oh, that's right. It's Because its Beyoncé and everything is always a big deal when it comes to her getting money

But she was a part of the campaign. It would be pretty disingenuous to say that acting healthy is separate from exercise when it comes to good health.
Again, I am fine with Beyonce doing this thing with Pepsi. It will do wonders for her name, and the next album is sure to be a hit. But for people who actually care, there is something to be complained about.

What point are you trying to make? And what wonders will it do to her name when she is with them since 2002?
Anyway like I said in Huffingston post's thread I hope more and more pressed souls write some twisted thesis on that deal, it brings attention on the new era.
