The reality TV popstar told Digital Spy that he was hoping his upcoming appearance on Dancing on Ice could boost his music career.
"I was hoping to get back in the studio before this," he said. "That was my sole mission.
"But it will be nice in a way because it's what the fans have wanted to see for ages, me back on the TV."
"But yeah, I will hopefully get back into the pop music industry. I'm not finished with it. I'm far from done with it. I'm looking forward to getting back to it."
Beth Tweddle’s gymnastics background is the logical reason why she is the favourite to win the eighth series of Dancing On Ice, but the sensible early money may be on Shayne Ward.
The early preference is for Shayne Ward at 7/1, particularly given the past record of celebrities who found fame through a singing talent show.
There's one big career revival coming to Shayne Ward in the New Year: the popstar and record-breaking X Factor champion will join Dancing on Ice.
Although Shayne was dropped by Simon Cowell's Syco label back in 2011, he has gone on to forge a successful career in London's West End. And with his slot on the ITV ice skating competition, Shayne could be set to revive his music career after two years.

Having avoided the trips and tumbles when first hitting the ice (but all good things must come to an end) the singer couldn’t avoid that first awful plummet or those bruises for long.
He said: “I have got hairy legs and so they are quite well hidden. If I shaved them, I would probably have about 100!” Don't do that please.
