That's surprising especially for a company who loves to brag about how valuable they are and overhype their products with ridiculous and inaccurate marketing details.
Apple sold just a little more than the same amount of the iPhone 4S in its first week last year with the iPhone 5 in its first week, but the iPhone 4S ended up selling only 22 million after one whole year. I doubt the iPhone 5 sales will be any much different. SGS3 has already sold 30 million in just 5 months. Samsung is eating the marketshares of virtually all of its competitors including a bit from Apple. Their sales are now at an all-time high. And there is just no sign of their momentum ever stopping especially now that the SGS4 is generating buzz.
