I don't think he's overrated, he did have to work hard to get where he is. The black community was not as welcoming, due to the fact that some may say that he was just another white boy trying to capitalize off of rap and the black community, and the whole racist song he did, didn't help him. So he had to work super hard to show that this wasn't a gimmick, and gain respect. Theres people to this day that still use the whole "white boy" thing against him. I would say that he is a bit more respected, he's not the greatest rapper alive, but I do find him to be a good lyricist.

I saw you perched. I am dead serious. Especially with DMX and Jay Z. DMX really goes in. Jay z is versatile and thinks outside of the box.
Kanye, i'll give you. Maybe he needs to be more consistent lyrically as he is production wise. Ludacris is versatile as well.
I'll only budge on Kanye.

Jay-Z is a better rapper and lyricist than Eminem.

Better rapper? Debatable. Better lyricist? Yeah... no.

He is underrated on ATRL but sometimes the media overrates him.

Jay Z has a good ear for beats but he talks about similar topics the majority of the time, which is based on mafioso style rap and stuff of that nature, and his flow isnt even all that creative; alot of his style comes from Notorious BIG. Eminem has taken more risks with his songwriting and flow, and is a much more creative rap lyricist, when comparing peak for peak; alot of the times he fails, and fails hard, but he was more inventive in his approach to storytelling in his prime. Im just going to ignore DMX, Ludicris and Kanye because to compare those three artists to Eminem is his prime in terms of lyricism and storytelling is completely asinine. They were nowhere near the same area code in comparison. Kanye and Jay may be more consistent artists, or in Kanyes case, just a plain better artist in terms of crafting the whole aspect of a song/album, when actually boiling down to the basis of the songwriting, Eminem at his peak was better than them, ten fold.
And I dont even want to defend Eminem because I would rather listen to Jay Z and Kanye over him, any day of the week, but I have to give credit were credit is due, Eminem in his prime would've straight murdered them in terms of lyricism and "rapping".

He's not underrated here either. Most people who don't even listen to rap claim Eminem is the best rapper ever. It's been done here loads of times.

He's not. but if he is overrated, that's because there are no other players in the rap game. Who raps anymore?
Jay-Z and Kanye are probably the only ones left in the game with Eminem, but all they rap about is their money, bitches, and success. Theyre innovative in the production and lyrics..but their subject content is so repetitive

Ah! I forgot about Kendrick. He's a new up and coming, but he has YEARS to prove he's one of the big fish. His first album gives me those teas, but we'll see later on

yes and no. like he's a really good rapper, debatably the best, but like his fans overhype him and he'll have a couple good songs off every album.
