She was about the 5th major Popstar that year to put out a corny single about loving yourself and whatever. Aside from its trite, overdone theme, the song was horrible. There was absolutely nothing brilliant about it.

And dead at somebody saying the song was groundbreaking. Nobody is playing that song anymore. Even Beautiful is getting more rotation.

I feel like she could have pretty much released anything and it would have been a good first single, although not anything from the album would have done as well. It's a huge guilty pleasure for me because of the lyrics. The lyrics are... so bad but I can't help but love the song hahahaha.

Well, it's not brilliant (especially considering all the hype), but it's definitely not as bad as some people on this site make it out to be. But then again, a lot of people on this site do the most on Gaga but they see her as a threat so I understand.

I would say it's a good song but Gaga's done better. They made the right decision by making it the first single though.

Born This Way's IMPACT was huge. It really will be one of Gaga's defining songs, and thousands of gay kids were seriously helped by the message and the song.

She might've had a better era starting with another song, but only stans care about eras. History cares about impact.

I agree with this. Born This Way (single), although it was #1 for however many weeks (6), it itself seems like a flash in the pan. While it can be an enjoyable song, it almost feels like a chore to listen to. It's too messy..

I actually love Born This Way (the song). It was the perfect first single. Electric Chapel could've replaced it though
