It was one kids birthday, their mom was going home to put together the party. I cant imagine how terrible to get that call while putting up decorations.

The cat is long out of the bag, I'm afraid. There are too many weapons out there now to allow tragedies like this to happen, regardless of any new gun restriction laws introduced. If you wanted a gun, you'd be get one.
That said, I don't know how much more evidence the US needs to show that it is NOT a good idea to have guns so readily available.
