“Bad Girls” (3:48)
|
Year: 2012
Album: “Matangi”
Previous Entries: MIA
“XXXO” (#69, 2010)
Discovery: Single Release
Let's just get this out of the way: We all know the video is dope ****. The song overall goes harder than most hip-hop songs with that fat bollywood-style beat. Everything about "Bad Girls"is infectious; so catchy and not on the annoying-catchy level.

The Weeknd
“Coming Down”
So yeah, I finally gotten into The Weeknd not during the Trilogy release but during a rating game.I was pleasantly surprised. I wasn't to sure which song to represent him the best for my countdown but this right here is my personal favorite. The song starts out so oozy, misty and his vocals are great and unique. This song is SEX. |

Brandy
”Wildest Dream”
"Put It Down" was a bop but I felt really connected to this song. Those opening harmonies are everything - classic Brandy with her distinct and intricate vocal ability. I initially thought it was a touchy song about her incident a few years back because the lyrics just had me relate back to it. "Wildest Dreams" is a beautiful song that has a ’90s R&B throwback feel. |

John Legend
“Tonight (Best You Ever Had) (featuring Ludacris)”
I really liked this, it's very grown, sultry and oh so smooth. This is such a sophisticated track, actually catchy and has a nice groove. It's so overlooked as an R&B this year, it's one of the better tracks this year.

Jason Mraz
“I Won't Give Up”
Such a great song, no negatives here. Why the GRAMMY snub? It's so simple but effective, it's just an acoustic guitar and Jason's voice and he serves a very emotional and moving melody/lyrics.

Miike Snow
“Paddling Out”
First single from their recent album “Happy To You". Great instrumental and chorus, the song as a whole just remidns me of their early work. I love the way this track builds.

Major Lazor
“Get Free (featuring Amber of Dirty Projectors)"
Major Lazer is known for their sick reggae influenced bouncy beats but this one right here is melodic and rather slow but still very animated. Amber's vocals are the icing on the cake. This really turned out to be a great summer track. |

The Presets
“Ghosts”
It's like a sailors songs. Love the roars and how the leads vocals soar over the track. Very anthemic track and a different sound for The Presets.
