Visually it was boring. The Youtube views don't lie. The music video has been a strong medium for the Queen. Bad Romance wouldn't be such a global hit if it weren't for the video. She really tried it with that one.

Yes, but people generally talk about Brian May's 'solo' on the song. Of course he's on the guitar during the whole thing, but my general point was that it wasn't a collaboration. The song wasn't titled 'You & I - by Lady Gaga feat. Brian May', it was just Lady Gaga. If it was a collaboration, it would've gotten a bit more interest over here. Plus, the UK just simply culturally has never been into country rock. It's a very purely American type of music. By saying that just because Brian May was playing the guitar in the song it suddenly SHOULD HAVE slayed, is just silly and completely misunderstands the UK market.

The funny part of the BTW era is no one outside of Gaga's stanbase can shade it anymore, since for all of the hype of it disappointing, it's outsold all of the new pop releases this year that are tanking/flopping.

I dunno. It wasn't 'Gaga', but I think it was still visually beautiful in the same way that 'The King's Speech' cinematography is visually beautiful, even though it wasn't 'Avatar'-stunning.

I think it would've ruined the beauty of the song if it had a video with weird mermaids and surgical beds and whatever was planned by Gibson. To have Clemons there, just before he passed away, I think that will make the video memorable on its own.

The Edge of Glory makes me imagine a night in the city. The video is a night in the city. Even GaGa saw the mental connection and knew a mermaid absolutely didn't fit into that equation.

The negative reaction was uncalled for & caused her to be afraid of simplistic videos for the rest of the era, resulting in the Y&I & MtN videos returning to longer forms. While great videos in my opinion, they were definitely extraneous in certain parts.

Videos can be long without being superfluous, which is exactly what those two videos were.

You & I was nice visually, in some parts, but in others, it felt like a bunch of ideas jammed together that didn't fit in a cohesive way.

In the case of MTN, 13 minutes is far too much when the song itself isn't even half that length. You can tell a story without a 9 minute "Prelude Pathetique."

I think the phrase "less is more" applies nicely.

Exactly. All the videos should be short & sweet next era. But that doesn't mean they should be faceless & generic, however.

LoveGame-esque videos would go over well for ARTPOP.
