I think the biggest rising trends in music currently is EDM, alternative and bubblegum.
I think Gaga will be fine with her edm focus. Too Close has been pretty huge by Alex Claire.
Too Close is more in line with alternative, which has actually been infused with dubstep in varying forms: "Madness" by Muse, Korn's work with Skrillex, "Sail," and of course "Too Close."

Ke$ha was never as global as Gaga to begin with. She got #2 with her first single but her album is flopping, but she was never known as an album seller like Gaga. I am trying to be optimistic about ARTPOP.

Again, breaks can be good or bad it hugely relies on the quality of material released. Hence why whether it's rihanna taking no breaks or beyonce or P!nk taking huge breaks all three have had flop eras as well as having huge eras.
The music will be and always is the deciding factor. RIhanna releases all the time because she rides trends to take advantage of them, plus her production/writing teams can run in parallel with whatever RIh is doing at the time. Gaga is not so much a follower (nor is Pink) and tends to go her own way even if her work mostly fits into the overall zeitgeist, so her eras are going to be much more dependent on whether the public buys what she puts out at any given time.
What if she doesn't do a full-blown tour for ARTPOP? What if she does, like, 50 dates in the biggest cities and then rests so that she can get her schedule back in check. Her starting the BTWB so late really messed up her schedule because if she starts touring for ARTPOP, it will be less than a year since the last tour. Mini ARPTOP tour and then major tour after for her next album.
She could literally play 50 shows in Japan and make $100m.

The GRAMMY voters love Gaga so I wouldn't be surprised if they let her perform the new single on there, especially after the all time low ratings for the nominations concert. But whether Gaga will or not is another thing
I think she'll shoot the music video during this break, she doesn't really have a choice I think they'll also finalise the radio deal and it's official release date. I'm guessing that the single is picked and that they have the artwork for it done.
