Discussion: Organize music files?

This thread is reminding me how much of a hot mess I am when it comes to organizing my music. I literally do all of these things!
Lady Marmalade has always been a problem though, since there isn't just one lead artist. I don't listen to Lil Kim or Mya, so I have the artist listed as "Christina Aguilera & Pink" but doing it that way causes the song to not to be listed under either artist.

Girl, we should all be like you. I can't STAND how 99% of my friends' iPods have multiples of artists, there's no grammatical rhyme or reason and some songs aren't even tagged. Makes me sick to my stomach haha.
Technically, from as many places as I can see, Christina gets the lead artist credits and Lil' Kim, Mưa & Pink. So I have it listed like this:
Christina Aguilera - Lady Marmalade (feat. Lil' Kim, Mưa & Pink) from Lady Marmalade - Single

Silly, that's the only use for the Album Artist category. If you list all four artists, if I'm not mistaken, it should show up under all four artists, even though you have the main artist listed as Christina. I can't say for sure though, 'cuz I don't use this category. But with this music file revampification I've embarked on, I think I'm going to try to incorporate it.

I almost went off on how grammatically incorrect that is, but then I realized your angle on this post, lol. You're saying it has to be, like that's how you have to have it. As long as you can navigate your library, I guess it's okay, but it might get confusing if you were to ever share your music with someone.

no because if you label album artist as Lady Gaga, it will all be classified under one album

Mine:
Lady Marmalade (Christina Aguilera, Lil' Kim, Mya and P!nk)
Moulin Rouge
Moulin Rouge Soundtrack
Pop

I also have it under Christina alone since it was included in the Keeps Getting Better compilation.

It's too late to do it for me now.
It could take weeks with my 13000+ tracks.

My OCD won't let me to have it any other way than this

Song: All capitalized and complete with words 'Featuring', (Remix), (Live), (7'' Version) etc
Artist: Capitalized, and NEVER has the iTunes import settings of '____ ft.'. It messes up and makes more artists when I search on my iPod and iPhone.
Album: Always in the album tracklisting number, even if I only have one song from it. I don't have '(Deluxe Edition)' because it separates it from the standard.
Genre: All the usual that iTunes provides, but 'Hip Hop/Rap' instead of 'Hip-Hop/Rap'. I also have a few self made like Live, Showtunes, World, Ska
Artwork: ALWAYS look for the iTunes official one, or the one off Wikipedia. If the song is a single it'll have the single artwork before the album. If there is a standard/deluxe edition, the ones on the deluxe will have the deluxe artwork.

Except I always delete genres because it's not always defined clearly so I just leave it empty. And I put songs like Telephone ft. Beyonce because that's how VEVO has.

Only thing I DESPISE, is when a track has no artwork. When I scroll through my library holding my iPhone sideways, I need every cover to show up. Not a black background with a Lyric Symbol. It'll drive me crazy.

- I either get the full album, or no deal (Incompletion bothers me more than anything)
- All years must be present
- All things that should be capitalized will be
- If there is a funky symbol [&, $, +, etc.] You best bet I'll have it!
- Each album gets a folder on my external hard-drive which holds all the songs, properly numbered, plus the album artwork
I am actually quite snotty about it, too. In fact, I'll show of my beautiful iTunes screen right HERE among other people who appreciate the effort put into maintaining this crap :P

Ikr? It's usually when I download live concerts and split them and need squared artwork or music from local artists that have no iTunes artwork or anything on Google images even.
