Prejudice is prejudice, unless you're trying to imply it is more "appropriate" to discriminate against people because of their sexuality than because of their race.

I just don't like the notion that homosexuality and Christianity can't coexist.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

My friend is as gay as they come, yet he loves church, god, jesus, and everything inbetween.

But it doesn't surprise me seeming as to how so many people are narrow minded.

It effectively was. Our Civil Partnerships were essentially Civil Marriage but with different wording.

Now, quite rightly, they're wising up the notion that "separate but equal" isn't equal.

It's not good, but it'll only be a matter of time. They're merely delaying the inevitable.

I personally think a more logical option is to allow churches to make their own decisions, not outlaw it from the top. I'm sure there are gay-friendly churches out there to cater to the Christian couples, and if the church denies the couple I doubt they'd want to marry there anyway...

At least the church isn't ****-blocking legalisation in general.

That's fair enough. And I mean I doubt a gay-friendly church is going to deny members of their congregation a marriage ceremony. Just for the intention of it.

I just don't like the whole religion vs preferences thing, it perpetuates a "them vs us" mentality that I think is harmful. Not that I blame people considering how some Christians have behaved.

It's both positive and negative, it does push forward the gay marriage argument in the UK but as another poster said, what about churches who are OK with performing gay marriages? What happens to their services?

I want to get married in a church, I don't see why that's wrong.

That happened this year in Alabama, I think.

Well when I was in Catholic school it was accepted at my church and school. Just as long as you didn't have sex it was okay. I think some churches are more liberal than others so it depends.
